GREAT TV Making The Monkees
9.35pm – 10.25pm ABC1 Thursday 27 March ----------------------------------------------------
In 1967, four unknown actors in a kid's TV show became the biggest pop band in the world. In America, they out sold Elvis and The Beatles combined. They were The Monkees.
ULLO ULLO!!!!!!!!! WELCOME TO SUNDAY 16th March .2008.. (17) EPISODE VARIOUSARTISTSPRESENTSregularly distributed publication LETS BEGIN with THE HOT STUFF!
1. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer by Gustav Klimt ($135,000,000)
This record breaking sale was enabled by a court order by the Austrian government to return the painting to the Artist's rightful heir. The entire dispute lasted over a year and was necessary to return the painting that was looted by the Nazis during World War II.
Skillfully painted in 1907 by the art nouveau master Gustav Klimt, the painting was purchased by Ronald S. Lauder, the cosmetics heir, in 2006.
2. Gar??a Pipe by Pablo Picasso ($104,100,000)
Created during the Rose Period, Garcon a la Pipe showcases Picasso's exceptional use of cheerful orange and pink palatte. The oil on canvas painting, measuring 100?81.3 cm (slightly over 39?32 inches), displays a Parisian boy holding a pipe in his left hand.
The record price auction at the time on May 4, 2004 in Sotheby's was a bit of a surprise to the core art buyers, because it was painted in the style not usually associated with the pioneering Cubist artist.
3. Dora Maar with Cat by Pablo Picasso ($95,200,000)
Another enormous surprise followed in 2006, when this painting near doubled its inaccurate presale estimate and brought in new record $95,200,000 at auction at Sotheby's on May 3, 2006.
Painted in 1941, Picasso's controversial portrait (one of his last) is sometimes described as an unflattering depiction of his mistress, Dora Maar, who was an artist/photographer and mistress of Picasso whose relationship lasted ten years during the 1930s and 40s.
4. Portrait of Dr. Gachet by Vincent van Gogh ($82,500,000)
This painting by the Dutch Impressionist master Vincent van Gogh suddenly became world-famous when Japanese businessman Ryoei Saito paid $82.5 million for it at auction in Christie's, New York. Saito was so attached to the painting that he wanted it to be cremated with him when he died. Saito died in 1996 ... but the painting was saved.
Vincent van Gogh actually painted two versions of Dr Gachet's portrait. You can view the other version, with a slightly different color scheme, at the Mus?d'Orsay in Paris.
5. Bal Au Moulin de la Galette by Pierre-Auguste Renoir ($78,000,000)
Bal au moulin de la Galette, Montmartre was painted by French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1876. On May 17, 1990, it was sold for $ 78,000,000 at Sotheby's in New York City to Ryoei Saito, who bought it together with the Portrait of Dr Gachet (see above).
6. Massacre of the Innocents by Peter Paul Rubens ($76,700,000)
This painting by Peter Paul Rubens, painted in 1611, is the only painting in this list which was not painted in the 19th or 20th century. It was sold to Kenneth Thomson, 2nd Baron Thomson of Fleet for $ 76,700,000 at a 2002 Sotheby's auction.
7. Portrait de l'Artiste sans Barbe by Vincent van Gogh ($71,500,000)
Portrait de l'artiste sans barbe ("Self-portrait without beard") is one of many self-portraits by Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. He painted this one in Saint-R?-de-Provence, France in September 1889. The painting is a oil painting on canvas and is 40 cm x 31 cm (16" x 13").
This is an uncommon painting since his other self-portraits show him with a beard. The self-portrait became one of the most expensive paintings of all time when it was sold for $71.5 million in 1998 in New York.
8. Rideau, Cruchon et Compotier by Paul C?nne ($60,500,000)
This painting by Paul C?nne, painted in ca. 1893-1894, sold for $60,500,000 at Sotheby's New York on May 10, 1999 to "The Whitneys". Whitney, born into one of America's wealthiest families, was a venture capitalist, publisher, Broadway show and Hollywood film producer, and philanthropist.
9. Femme aux Bras Crois?by Pablo Picasso ($55,000,000)
This work, painted in 1901, was a part of Picasso's famous Blue Period, a dark, sad time in the artist's life. The beautiful & various tones of blue are typical. The painting depicts a woman with her arms crossed staring at the endless nothing.
Femme aux Bras Crois?was sold for $55,000,000 November 8, 2000, at Christie's Rockefeller in New York City.
10. Irises by Vincent Van Gogh ($53,900,000)
Vincent van Gogh painted this at Saint Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-R?-de-Provence, France in 1889, only one year before his death. In 1987, it became the most expensive painting to date. It was sold for $ 54,000,000 to Alan Bond and later resold to the Getty Museum

GREAT TV Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA
Channel: 9
When: 9:30 PM, Wednesday, 19 Mar 2008
This week sees the award-winning Scottish chef head to LA in order to save a failed pizzeria, which under the management (delusion) of its ex "actor" restaurateur Sebastian, uses microwaves over wood fired ovens and frozen mush over fresh produce.
The expletives fly as Ramsay struggles to comprehend the unique menu concept ("unique" and "concept" applied loosely). Sebastian's epic meal scheme revolves around 20 different "flavour combinations", although their difference is debatable, as everything they serve appears to be fries with a suspicious kind of orange sauce, just arranged in different shapes.
Ramsay soon realises communicating with Sebastian is fruitless and turns to the staff, providing them with new techniques, equipment and attitudes to demonstrate how a successful restaurant should run. Despite the staff's enthusiasm, they're clearly disheartened that it's their stubborn employer who will seal their fate. Given the show only stays with them for a week, it's frustrating that we're left wondering whether Sebastian's makes it in the long run.
This program sits at the palatable end of the reality TV scale thanks to Ramsay's no-nonsense approach and his genuine passion for culinary quality. There's the predictable sketchy camera work, dramatic music and footage re-hashing, but by capitalising on the natural drama of the restaurant world and Ramsay's often hard-to-swallow advice, Kitchen Nightmares serves up a feast.

GREAT TV The Indian Miracle? 8.30pm – 9.30pm SBS Tuesday 11 March
One of the best known UK news journalists, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, reveals the dark side of modern India - discrimination against Muslims, a rise in Hindu nationalism, farmers driven to suicide by debt and a caste system which prevents those at the bottom from securing any but the most menial and humiliating jobs. Guru-Murthy questions the social stability of a country that will soon enter the top five of the economic giants.

10. 'thomas' (0.99‰) First off, at number 10, is the most common format of passwords - the name. Thomas is a perennially popular name in the UK (2nd most popular in 2000), so it is perhaps no surprise that it makes the top 10, with nearly 1 in 1,000 people opting for this ubiquitous forename as their password. We can only guess that there are a lot of fans of Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Edison out there! The high prevalence of Christian names only further reinforces the fact that loved ones are a common choice when it comes to passwords.
9. 'arsenal' (1.11‰) Football teams tend to be another popular choice, and the gunners fall in 9th place. This may or may not be reflective of the fact that the word 'arsenal' starts with a 4-letter swear word - another popular choice when it comes to passwords. Arsenal are ranked 6th overall in average attendance rankings, and are the 2nd most popular football-related password.
8. 'monkey' (1.33‰) Quite why the monkey makes it into 8th place is beyond me, but the fact that it's a 6-letter word (6 letters is a typical minimum length for passwords), is easily typed and is memorable probably helps cement its position as ideal password material. Still, it's quite worrying that there's such a trend - perhaps the internet and monkeys are inextricably linked?
7. 'charlie' (1.39‰) Another name - nowhere near as common a name as No. 10, Thomas, but it's our most popular name-based password overall. Could of course, be a homage to a number of famous Charlies - Chaplin, Sheen, or those of a Chocolate Factory persuasion. Or, of course, it could just be the case that they're referring to it's slang usage.
6. 'qwerty' (1.41‰) I wonder where the inspiration for this one came from? Perhaps when faced with a blinking cursor and an instruction to choose a password people will tend to look to the things closest to them - which would explain why 1 in 700 people choose 'qwerty' as their password.
5. '123456' (1.63‰) Can you count to 6? It's the most common minimum required length of password - and the 5th most common password.
4. 'letmein' (1.76‰) A modern-day version of 'open sesame' - and 1 person in 560 will type 'letmein' as their password. Quite why is beyond me. I could be mistaken, but I have a hunch that 'letmein' has been featured in a movie or TV series - Fox Mulder's password from the X Files - 'trustno1' - also ranked quite highly.
3. 'liverpool' (1.82‰) The most popular football team by some margin, Liverpool was the third most popular password overall. Does this mean that 1 in 550 people is such a devout Liverpool fan that they would be willing to entrust private data to the team they love? Liverpool ranked 3rd in the average attendance ratings - leaving the 2 most popular teams, Manchester United and Newcastle United, out of the top 10 list - perhaps because they're too long and difficult to type.
2. 'password' (3.780‰) Akin to pressing the 'any' key, when told to enter a 'password', it would seem that users aren't the sharpest tool in the box - with almost 1 in 250 people choosing the word 'password'.
1. '123' (3.784‰) With nearly 4 people in 1,000 opting for a simple numerical sequence as their password (it should be noted that there was no lower length limit specified), '123' must be the first thing a lot of people think of when asked to specify a password. One dreads to think what their PIN number might be!
